With over 8600 pension funds available to UK Investors, choosing the right funds to maximise retirement income can be a minefield. The fact is less than 7% of these funds are consistently top quartile performing within their sectors, and many investors are losing out on extra retirement income by investing in pension funds that are underperforming.
In this report, we detail five pension funds that have excelled in their sectors, with each delivering exceptional growth in comparison to other competing same sector funds.
In compiling our list of 5 best pension funds, we analysed the performance and ranking of over 8600 pension funds and selected those that have consistently outperformed at least 75% of competing same sector funds over the five year period up to 1st February 2017.
Each of the funds below have consistently been among the best performing pension funds within their sectors. They are not listed in any particular order.
FL Schroder Income AP
The FL Schroder Income AP fund sits within the pension UK Equity Income sector and has outperformed all 192 same sector funds over the recent five years with growth of 99.29%. This fund launched in July 2006, and despite its impressive performance, it has a low fund size of £2.5 million. In contrast, the most heavily invested fund in this sector was also the worst performer. The Aviva Equity Initial Pn fund holds over £9.1 billion of client money and its 5-year growth of 26.89% was the lowest of all 192 funds.
Baillie Gifford Global Alpha Pn
Launched in December 2011, the Baillie Gifford Global Alpha pension fund is one of 753 funds in the pension Global Equities sector with at least 5-years performance. This fund holds over £3.3 billion and has consistently delivered top performance for its investors since its inception. This fund has delivered 5-year growth of 114.8%, which ranks among the top 4% in its sector.
Baillie Gifford North American Pn
Another of Baillie Gifford’s funds that has consistently outperformed its peers is the Baillie Gifford North American pension fund. This fund sits within the highly competitive and often volatile North America sector. Not only has this fund been among the best performers in its sector over the recent 5 years it has been one of the best performing funds since it launched in December 2006. Over the past 10-year period this fund achieved growth of 254.58%, which was higher than 98% of all other funds in the North America sector over the same period.
M&G PP All Stock Corporate Bond Pn
With a fund size of £3.8 billion, the M&G PP All Stock Corporate Bond Pension fund is one of the most favoured funds in the pension Sterling Corporate Bond sector, and it hasn’t disappointed.
This fund has delivered 5-year growth of 43.33%, and it has consistently outperformed at least 87% of same sector funds. Over the most recent 12 months alone it ranked 5th out of 261 funds in its sector with growth of 12.31%.
Invesco European Equity Pn
The Invesco European Equity pension fund is one of 314 funds that classify within the Europe excluding UK sector. This funds objective is to achieve capital growth by investing in shares in companies within Continental Europe, and with excellent 5-year growth of 118.87%, which outperformed 97% of competing funds, it has indeed delivered on its objective.
The funds detailed in this report have proven their ability to deliver consistent top performance over a 5-year period. But how they perform in the future is difficult to predict. However, they have weathered fluctuating markets better than their competition over the recent five years, proving their fund managers expertise within particular sectors and they currently each represent excellent investment opportunities.
