In this report, we detail the findings from our study of passive funds during the 1, 3 & 5 years to October 2017. We found that 100% of the top performing funds in each sector within the IA universe were actively managed. In the 1 year period up to October 2017, we also found that 59.7% of passive funds delivered growth that was below the sector average and over 5 years this margin was even greater as some 68.75% of passive funds underperformed their sector average.
